Senior Property Tax Exemption for Tax Year 2009

Current economic conditions require that all levels of government make difficult decisions, and the State of Colorado has had to reduce or eliminate many programs in order to balance the budget. As a result, The Colorado Legislature has eliminated funding for the Senior Homestead Exemption for property tax year 2009, which will be reflected in tax bills for qualifying seniors in 2010.
In spite of this one-year suspension, the Assessor will continue to process new applications for the exemption program. Those who qualify for the first time in 2010 are encouraged to apply, and homeowners who have already been approved for the exemption need not reapply.
